Embry Riddle considers Rockford for their third campus!
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Headquartered in Daytona Beach FL, has placed Rockford Illinois on its short list of 6 potential cities for ERAU to expand and place its third campus right on the Chicago-Rockford International Airport. Initially ERAU will be providing BS, Masters and PHD programs centered around aerospace engineering with the option to offer flight courses in the future. Kaney Group CEO Jeffrey Kaney has been selected as one of the three team members joining Eric Voles of RAEDC and Bob O’Brian, Director of the Airport, to lead the charge for our community to land this very important opportunity. The initial selection of the wining city could come as early as November with a 2012 start date. It is anticipated that once fully up and running, over 1,000 students will attend at any time and ERAU will bring over 250 jobs to the area.

Kaney Aerospace President, Jeff Kaney, interviewed on WIFR TV
The President spoke to a group of small business owners in Maryland today.
He wants to make it easier for them to get loans. Obama's plan includes increasing the limit on SBA express loans from 350-thousand to one-million dollars.
The proposal also includes a five thousand dollar tax credit for every new job created.
Jeff Kaney owns Kaney Aerospace in Rockford, and says the five-thousand dollar credit is an attractive offer, But says the credit crunch and confidence is really whats preventing small business hiring.
Kaney hopes the plan is as good as it looks on paper.. but the details will tell.
I'f we could shore up some of our loans with an SBA loan then it would free up some capital for us to expand to invest in equipment and to ultimately hire people so it would be a big help."
Kaney doubled its workforce from 23 to nearly 60 workers last year. Eight and a half million jobs were lost since the start of the recession... And now the government predicts it will take the labor market at least 3 to 4 years to get back on track.
Kaney Aerospace had the honor of hosting the USAF F-22 Demonstration team while they were in Rockford for Airfest 2009.

Kaney Aerospace Finalist to Build Seaplane
Kaney Aerospace is featured on WIFR TV news! View the webcast at:

Many kinds of airplanes land at r-f-d.... except maybe.. the seaplane. But that could change... Sort of. A local aerospace company is hoping to land a design contract for a seaplane with international aspirations. Kaney Aerospace is tops on the list of South Austrailian company.. Tigerfish... To design a model for a new type of seaplane the company is developing. Tigerfish would use Kaney's model for testing and experimental certification. Kaney will retrofit the aircraft to give it the ability to land on water. It would have the ability to hold nearly 30 passengers. CEO Jeff Kaney says this opportunity is possible because of the strength of Rockford's aerospace industry. " Our program management skills come into play with the cluster here in Rockford Illinois and that's why its so important and that's why I believe were on the winning end of this. its not that just Kaney Aerospace had the ability to do strong program management. and the ability to produce the prototype. there's a huge amount of people behind us willing to step up and do the tasks that need to be done." If Kaney lands the deal it could take six to eighth months for work to begin.
